The Table of Contents app can be launched from the Canvas Rich Text Editor and will allow a table of contents to be automatically generated based on the headings contained in your content. This allows for readers to easily see the main sections of the content and to jump to them.

The app looks for headings (Heading 2/Heading 3/Heading 4) in the document and then builds a nested table of contents that links to the heading.

If the page changes in the future the app can update the existing table of contents to link to the new headings and drop links to non-existent headings.

To install this tool in Canvas use the EduAppCenter:

• Navigate to course or sub-account you wish to add the tool to.
• Click on the Settings page.
• Click on the Apps tab.
• Type Table of Contents in the search box.
• Click on the Table of Contents box in the search results.
• Click on +Add App
• When the dialogue is displayed click Add App
• The app should now be added to Canvas and available in the Rich Content Editor (RCE) under the Apps icon.
